A pet can't read a label. Its keeper can, but labels are long, packaging is loud, and the numbers on a bag and a can aren't on the same scale. iPickPet puts the facts in one place, the same way for every product, so anyone can see what's really in what they pick.

What we do

• Copy the facts word for word from each maker's own label or page: ingredients, guaranteed analysis, calories, adequacy statements, plan terms, specifications. Every product links its source and the date we checked it.
• Work out the science a label leaves to you: dry matter, grams per 1,000 kcal, the AAFCO minimums, a carbohydrate estimate. Every calculation is marked as one. How we work.
• Keep gaps visible. When a maker doesn't state something, we say so. We never fill a gap with a guess.
• Open everything. The database is free to download and use under the Open Database License, and the website's code is open source (MIT). Open data.

What we don't do

• No scores, rankings or “best of” lists: the right food depends on the pet.
• No veterinary advice. For your own pet, ask your veterinarian.
• No paid placements. A “Where to buy” link may earn a commission; it never changes a fact or the order of a list.

Beyond dogs and cats

iPickPet started with dog and cat food. It now covers supplements and insurance, and its catalogue is built for every kind of pet (birds, fish, small pets, reptiles, horses) and every kind of product: treats, gadgets, apps and VR/AR. New products are added as their makers publish the facts.

Corrections

Labels change, and we make mistakes. If a fact here differs from the package in your hands, the package is right. Every product is checked against its maker's page again over time, and the date of the last check is on its page.
