Yucca Schidigera Extract
A desert plant extract added to reduce the smell of stools.
Yucca schidigera is a desert plant whose extract is added to pet foods, mainly to reduce the smell of stools. In early research, a human panel rated the stools of dogs and cats as smelling better on it. A later trial in 20 Beagles found less odour at one level in a high-protein food and less ammonia in stools, with no change in digestibility.
That trial also saw changes in blood tests at its highest level, and its authors warn of possible side effects at higher doses. Yucca isn’t an established treatment for arthritis or anything else, whatever marketing may suggest.
