Copper Sulfate

A common inorganic source of copper.

Copper sulfate is a simple form of copper, which the body needs to use iron and to build connective tissue. It’s recognized as safe in animal feed at normal levels, and it’s one of the sources most often listed. Copper oxide is another, which the body absorbs poorly.

Some dogs accumulate copper in the liver, and veterinary authors have asked whether guidelines for dog foods should change. If your dog has liver disease, ask your veterinarian.

Also written as: Cupric Sulfate, Copper Oxide.
