Guar Gum
A thickener from guar beans, used to give wet food its texture.
Guar gum is a soluble fibre from the seeds of the guar plant. A small amount thickens wet foods and gravies and holds water and fat in place. It’s recognized as safe in animal feed, and it’s one of the most common thickeners on cat and dog food labels.
Because it’s a fibre, it also counts toward the total, and research has looked at soluble fibres and gut health. At the amounts used as a thickener, it’s not there as a health ingredient.
Also written as: Guar, Guar Meal.
