Animal protein
Salmon
Salmon flesh, a source of animal protein and the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA.
Salmon supplies complete protein and, unlike most meats, the long-chain omega-3 fats EPA and DHA, which the skin, joints and brain use. As fresh fish it’s mostly water, so its place on the list reflects the weight before cooking.
Fish is among the more commonly reported allergens in cats. Raw fish can also contain an enzyme that breaks down thiamine, though cooking destroys it. If your pet has a food allergy, read the whole list, not just the name on the front: the same animal can appear as a fat, a meal or a flavour. Ask your veterinarian.
