Flavor or palatant
Chicken Liver Flavor
A flavouring made from a named animal source, added so pets will eat the food.
These flavourings are usually made by breaking animal tissue down with heat or enzymes into a concentrated, meaty-tasting liquid or powder that’s sprayed on or mixed in. The name tells you the source: chicken, pork, beef.
That matters if your pet has a food allergy. A recipe named after salmon can still contain chicken or pork flavouring, so read the whole list, and ask your veterinarian. Hydrolyzed means broken into small pieces, which can make a protein less likely to trigger an allergy, but it isn’t a guarantee.
