Vitamin
Thiamine Mononitrate
A stable form of vitamin B1, which the body needs to turn food into energy.
Thiamine, vitamin B1, is needed to turn carbohydrates into energy, and the nervous system depends on it. It’s one of the more fragile vitamins: heat destroys it, and some raw fish contain an enzyme that breaks it down.
That fragility has real consequences. A review of cases describes thiamine deficiency in dogs and cats, mostly linked to foods that lost it in processing or storage, or to diets of raw fish. Early signs can be vague, such as a poor appetite, and it can progress to neurological signs, so a pet with those needs a veterinarian quickly.
Also written as: Thiamine, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B1 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1).
