Vitamin E Supplement
A stable form of vitamin E, added because dogs and cats need it and because fats in food use it up.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant: it protects cell membranes and the fats in the body from damage. Pets get it only from food. On labels it’s most often alpha-tocopherol acetate, a form that survives cooking and storage.
The need for it rises with the amount of polyunsaturated fat in the food, so foods rich in fish oil generally need more. It isn’t the same job as “mixed tocopherols” further down many labels: those are mainly there to keep the food’s fat from going rancid.
Also written as: Vitamin E, alpha-Tocopherol Acetate, dl-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Vitamin E Acetate.
