Vitamin
Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex
A synthetic source of vitamin K, which the body needs for blood to clot.
Vitamin K is needed for blood to clot. Dogs and cats get it from green plants and animal tissue, and gut bacteria make some too, so few healthy pets run short. Menadione is the form usually added to food because it’s stable and cheap.
Nutrient profiles don’t generally require added vitamin K in dog food. It’s most relevant in cat foods heavy in fish, which have been linked to shortages. Some makers leave menadione out and say so on the label; the amounts used are small, and a food isn’t better or worse for that alone.
